Shantih Mantras


     Shantih Mantras translates to Peace chants and is also known as Pancha Shantih. With this practice, all Mantras end with Om and Shantih is chanted three times. This is to pacify and remove any obstacles in the three realms.

     These realms are known as Tapa Traya or three classes of obstacles and when these Mantras are chanted, the three realms are pacified.

  • Adhi Bhautika or the physical realm where obstacles come from the material or external world

  • Adhi Daivika or the Divine realm where obstacles come from the extra sensory world of deities, demigods, and spirits.

  • Adhyaatmika or the internal realm where obstacles come from the practitioner's mind and body.
  • Student/ Teacher Prayer

         This Mantra is one of many different variations and is often chanted before a Yoga class begins. This Mantra is in a category called Shantih Mantras.

    Saha navavatu, Saha nau bhunaktu,

    Saha viryam karavahai,

    Tejasvi navadhitmastu ma vidvisavahai.

    Meaning

    May God protect both teacher and student

    May we both enjoy the learning together.

    May we together have courage and strength.

    May our study together be brilliant and shed light on others.

    May we never be hostile to each other.

         This Mantra is in a category called Shantih Mantras.

    Asato ma sadgamaya, tamaso ma jyotirgamaya

    Mrtyorma mrtam gamaya.

    Om shantih, shantih, shantih.

    Meaning

    Lead us from the unreal to the real

    Lead us from darkness to light

    Lead us from death to immortality

    Om peace, peace, peace.

    So Ham

         With this practice, this is the natural sound of an inhalation and exhalation. The goal of this practice is to give the mind something to do in order to achieve a deep state of relaxation. This Mantras aim is to bring about this union between your Individual Consciousness and the Divine Consciousness. While practicing allow your breath to find its natural rhythm, with every inhalation say to yourself or out loud So and with every exhalation say Ham.

    So means "I am"

    Ham means "that"

    Om Tat Sat

         This Mantra is from the Bhagavad Gita.

    Meaning

    Om refers to the Infinite Spirit

    Tat means "all that is"

    Sat means "truth"

    Laxmi Mantra for prosperity

         This practice is used for receiving abundance and prosperity for our over all happiness, health and financial success. It is best to preform this Mantra daily and with full awareness on creating and attracting more abundance and prosperity. Sometimes this may come in small pieces here and there, while other times it seems to be like a river and of course there may be times when you are not aware of what you are receiving.

    Shreem Maha Lakshmiyai Svaha.

    Meaning

    Om salutations to the great goddess Lakshmi, who manifests every kind of abundance.

    Mantra To Remove Confusion

         This Mantra is said to show the door of success as long as it is practiced with faith and reverence.

    Jehi Vidhi Hoi Naath Hit Moraa Karahu So Vegi Daas Main Toraa.

    Meaning

    "O lord, I am your devotee. I do not know what to do. So do at once whatever is good for me."
